Salary band D: Adviser Range: Typically appointed between $100,934 to $112,314 depending on skills and experience
Senior Adviser Range: Typically appointed between $114,591 to $135,076 depending on skills and experience

About the Role - Krero m te Tranga
Join the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines (ACVM) team and help ensure veterinary medicines used across Aotearoa New Zealand are safe, effective, and well managed. You'll evaluate scientific data, prepare regulatory reports and apply risk management principles that support decisions under the ACVM Act.
The team is responsible for managing risks to animal welfare, human health, trade and agricultural security associated with the import, manufacturing, use and sales of veterinary medicines and other agricultural compounds as defined by the ACVM Act 1997.
You'll contribute to improving guidance, standards, policies and systems, and work with a wide range of stakeholders across industry, government, and international partners.
About You - Mu
As an Adviser, you will bring strong analytical skills and a background in veterinary or animal sciences. You're confident interpreting technical information, communicating clearly and contributing to a collaborative team working across diverse regulatory topics.
You will bring:
- A degree in veterinary or animal sciences
- Ability to interpret scientific and technical information
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence engaging with stakeholders
Additionally, as a Senior Adviser, you will:
- Demonstrate experience preparing high quality regulatory or technical reports
- Lead conversations with industry or government when required
- Manage competing deadlines while maintaining quality outputs
- Contribute to developing policies, standards and regulatory guidance

The ACVM assessment team brings together specialists from the Veterinary Medicines team and the Agricultural Chemicals & Vertebrate Toxic Agents team, all committed to ensuring safe and effective products for animals, crop protection and pest control. They are a high performing group with diverse scientific backgrounds, experience and perspectives that strengthen their collective capability. Every team member shares a passion for maintaining product availability that supports New Zealand's primary industries.
The Veterinary Medicines team includes nine technical staff, most of whom are veterinarians, all dedicated to ensuring veterinary medicines are safe and efficacious for both companion and production animals. Team members are based across Aotearoa and regularly reconnect in Wellington, bringing geographic and personal diversity to the group. They value meaningful work and look forward to welcoming an engaged colleague who will contribute to a cohesive, committed team.
