Job purpose

The Director of Sales, East Region is a management position reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Sales. This individual must have an accomplished background in Pet Industry sales (Dog Food Sales experience a plus), strong negotiation skills, an ability to manage a Team of Territory Sales Managers, and experience working with larger Regional Accounts and Distributors.  Primary responsibilities include growth of revenue by expanding the retailer and dealer network via sales / market share of both new and existing product lines and to meet and exceed the company’s annual revenue goals. The Director of Sales, East Region will manage their own territory, provide strategic thought leadership, and provide support, guidance, vision, and structure to their associated team members.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for the revenue of distributors and retail accounts within the defined geography.
  • Develop, manage and drive product sales through distribution to retailers in the east region
  • Direct, manage and develop sales team members
  • Research key customer wants and needs, and effectively communicate with the sales leadership team
  • Resolve customer complaints in an effective and respectful manner
  • Further grow and develop customer relationships with distributors and retail partners
  • Manage new and existing product sales campaigns/strategies to successfully meet and exceed the company’s revenue goals
  • Work closely with other Directors to maximize best practices and common standard operating procedures.
  • Manage national, regional and local trade shows
  • Develop, manage and meet cost and revenue budgets and targets.
  • Measure, track, and analyze key metrics; and provide consolidated reports to the Senior Vice President of Sales.

Collaborate with Senior Vice President of Sales and other Sales Directors in evaluating new revenue opportunities/lanes.


To perform the essential functions of this position successfully, an individual should have the following educational background, experience and demonstrated skillset:

  • Bachelor / Master’s degree(s) in Science, Business, Economics, Marketing, Entrepreneurship; or other relevant field.
  • Progressive, accomplished work history with a minimum 5 years’ experience in key account management, territory management, or similar sales experience in the Pet Industry.
  • Excellent working knowledge of pet supply distribution and logistics
  • Strong, aspirational leader with a consistent ability to motivate
  • Exceptional communication skills, and the ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Strategic thinker with a relentless drive for growth and a positive attitude
  • Superior presentation skills and the ability to speak in front of large groups

Working conditions

This position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. This position will be required to adhere to all safety requirements, in all work environments. This position requires significant travel, and the ability / willingness to travel via airlines and/or vehicle.

Specific physical requirements may include:

  • Occasionally lifting weights of fifty (50) pounds or less.
  • Occasionally climbing ladders and stairwells.
  • Occasionally standing, sitting, or walking for long periods of time.
