Lead Veterinary Technician - Emergency DepartmentNight Shift | Full-Time (3x12s including one weekend day shift) | Austin, TX
Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a hourly pay rate starting at $25 - $28/ hour. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Pet Specialists of Austin (PSA), a Thrive Pet Healthcare partner, is seeking a skilled and motivated Emergency Shift Lead Vet Tech to join our day shift team. This is a great opportunity to grow your leadership in a collaborative, specialty/emergency hospital environment.
About the Role:
As the Shift Lead, you'll provide high-quality nursing care while guiding and supporting your technician team. You’ll help drive shift efficiency, delegate responsibilities, mentor team members, and maintain a smooth workflow throughout emergency cases and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Deliver Exceptional Emergency Care
- Triage, stabilize, and monitor critical patients
- Assist in surgeries and procedures
- Administer medications, fluids, and blood transfusions
- Manage diagnostics including radiology, lab work, and patient records
Lead the Team
- Direct and delegate responsibilities during shifts
- Ensure smooth workflow and efficiency across the ER floor
- Coordinate and lead team huddles to keep communication clear and care timely
Coach and Mentor
- Train, guide, and assess veterinary assistants and technicians
- Create individualized development plans and support growth goals
- Collaborate with leadership to improve protocols and training programs
Foster Positive Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between DVMs, techs, and hospital leadership
- Bring a solutions-focused mindset to challenges and coach in the moment
- Uphold hospital values and reinforce Thrive’s policies and procedures
- Complete other tasks as assigned
What We’re Looking For:
- 5+ years of veterinary technician experience (Emergency/Specialty required)
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience required
- Strong communication and mentoring skills
- Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
- Credentialed tech (CVT, LVT, RVT) preferred
- May be required to work overtime on occasion
