Celtic Creatures Vet Clinic is a privately owned, AAHA accredited small animal hospital located on Canada’s East Coast in beautiful Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. We believe in reducing fear, anxiety and stress in our patients using Fear Free techniques. We strive to provide the highest standards of care possible to our patients and outstanding service to our clients. Our services include surgery, dentistry, medicine, preventative care, nutrition counselling, in-house DR radiography, and DR dental rads, ultrasonography, and full Idexx laboratory with the Zoetis Imagyst, and emergency services. Celtic Creatures Vet Clinic strongly believes in providing a supportive and rewarding work environment, through a structured, tiered on-boarding and training program, hands-on experienced management, frequent staff meetings with training topics, and ongoing CE opportunities.
Our hospital is growing and construction of our new spacious hospital addition & renovations will be complete by early February, 2026. Improvements include a large 4 station treatment room, new medical gas system, new surgery and dental suites, new reception and admin and vet offices, new lab and new exam rooms. Our fun and supportive team features 7 RVTs, 3 vet assistants, 3 CSRs and 5 veterinarians with 3 vets scheduled per day. We believe in work-life balance and a healthy work environment. Full-time employees work 4 days a week, Monday to Friday, with very minimal on-call duties thanks to our shared on-call agreement. Our emergency call volume is greatly reduced using the after hours services of Vet Triage (vettriage.com).

RVT Duties Include:
- Full-time RVT position, and will be required to register with both the EVTA and NSVMA
- Anesthetic induction, surgery prep and anesthetic monitoring with capnograph, EKG, pulse-oximetry, oscillometric blood pressure and temperature
- Use of Hot Dog and Baer-hugger patient warming devices
- Practice high standards in multi-modal pain management including local blocks and CRIs
- Maintain electronic medical records in Avimark and controlled drug log books
- Perform lab work using our full in-house Idexx lab and Zoetis Imagyst
- Perform safe, low-stress patient restraint using Fear Free techniques on small animals including exotic species
- Demonstrate compassionate patient and client care
- Administer in-clinic treatments, update patient records, IV catheter care, bandaging, TLC, etc.
- Perform quality direct digital radiographs and assist with ultrasounds
- Perform professional dental cleanings- dental charting, scale, curette and polishing
- Perform full mouth digital dental radiographs on dogs and cats
- Client education- admit & discharge surgery patients, nutrition counselling, diabetic consults, answer client questions
- Communicate professionally and effectively with all team members and clients
- Assist with maintenance and cleaning of hospital and equipment
- Collaborate with all team members to provide excellent patient & client care
- Perform tech appointments such as nail trims, injections, blood draws, ear cleaning and anal glands
- Participate in shared on-call duties to support the veterinarian
Requirements
- Must have graduated from an accredited veterinary technology program and have passed the NAVLE exam, copies of certificates must be provided
- Must have at least one year experience working as an RVT in a small animal hospital
- A criminal record check must be submitted prior to hiring
