BHJ USA, LLC. is a leading supplier of fresh/frozen meat blends to both the wet and dry pet food industries. We are seeking a motivated individual to lead BHJ’s sustainability activities and work with business partners across the organization to implement BHJ’s sustainability policies and programs for North America. 

  • In cooperation with Management, develop a sustainability strategy for BHJ North America that is consistent with BHJ global policies and goals.
  • Manage BHJ’s  sustainability strategy across the entire environment footprint (owned facilities and supply chain).   Coordinates with BHJ facilities and customers toward delivering company commitments and reducing/negating BHJ’s environmental impact.
  • Lead and coordinate the implementation of Science Based Targets (SBT’s), leveraging understanding of methods, benchmarking and measuring the company impact in our facilities and multiple commodity supply chains.
  • Identify environmental resource reduction opportunities based on external learning and best-in-class examples and support cross-functional partners in delivering reductions to meet company commitments.
  • Identify certification opportunities to benefit BHJ’s standing as it relates to sustainability
  • Update Executive Management Team on sustainability efforts, activities, opportunities, and challenges in order to facilitate decision making processes
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with cross-functional partners to plan, manage and execute on environmental programs.
  • Ensure implementation plans are effectively managed and milestones are achieved.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, action and workplans, and resources to project completion.
  • Build relationships with external experts and partners to support environmental program delivery.
  • Manages sustainable fish and/or other defined sources to include mapping of types of fish, certifications, where and how they are caught.   Maintain data and update customers as required.
  • Represent BHJ North America at regulatory levels with all appropriate governing agencies to ensure the interests of BHJ North America are represented. 
  • Identify potential state, federal or provincial financial support opportunities and incentives for investments in sustainability efforts.
  • Represent BHJ North America at industry levels in associations related to the core business activities of the company and ensure the interests of BHJ North America are represented as it relates to sustainability.
  • Manage audits from external organizations as it relates to Sustainability with the cooperation from HR, Operations, EHS and Commercial
  • Train/educate BHJ team members in  Sustainability related matters to ensure all facilities have the tools and knowledge required
  • Develop presentation materials that describe how BHJ can support our customers’ sustainability agenda and show how BHJ provides value to our customers
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and wearing of all required safety gear (PPE)
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential
  • Adhere, support, and enforce all company policies and procedures

Bachelor's degree in a science with at least (2-5) years experience or equivalent education and/or experience. Must also possess the following skills:

Experience in environmental/sustainability with a track record of effectively managing/developing programs in an empowered and changing environment.

  • Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
  • Strong influencing, collaboration, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead and facilitate group process and collaboration
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills required with the ability to track, measure and identify improvement solutions
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable, moving and managing projects with differing objectives, milestones and deliverables
  • Ability to communicate with people across all organizational levels
  • Ability to read and understand regulatory requirements as it relates to sustainability
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team and treat coworkers with respect
  • Experience in the meat processing industry is desired but not required
  • Ability to travel 20-25% of the time overnight and internationally
  • Valid driver's license and passport
