Thrive Miami is looking for a Full Time Veterinary Technician or Assistant (Emergency & ICU) to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community in South Miami, Florida.$2,000 SIGN-ON BONUS!
Veterinary Technician- Emergency / ICU- Miami, FL
SHIFT: Overnight and must be able to work rotating weekends
COMPENSATION: $20-30 / HR BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS
Additional shift differentials apply to overnight and weekend shifts.
About You
You’re an experienced veterinary technician/assistant who thrives in the adrenaline and teamwork of ER, ICU, and specialty medicine. You bring strong technical skills, sharp critical thinking, and a calm, compassionate presence for both high-acuity patients and their families. You’re energized by complex cases, love working alongside a collaborative medical team, and enjoy helping elevate those around you through mentorship and clinical excellence.

Your Experience & Skills
- Ability to triage, monitor, and provide nursing care for ER, ICU, and specialty patients across all levels of acuity.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in animal restraint, anesthesia monitoring, catheter placement, phlebotomy, radiology positioning, triage, and treatment execution.
- Maintain strong knowledge of anesthetic protocols used for emergency, critical care, surgical, and specialty patients.
- Proficiency in operating in-house laboratory equipment, coordinating accurate send-out diagnostics, and supporting advanced specialty imaging workflows, including CT.
- Strong knowledge of triage for new consultations, rechecks, and inpatient status changes and ability to prioritize and effectively communicate with DVMs, team and clients.
- Ability to discuss estimates for diagnostics, procedures, and treatments with clients in clear, compassionate, non-medical language.
- Sound knowledge of surgical procedures, workflows, and perioperative nursing processes.
- Provide expert floor support for complex cases, emergency procedures, and advanced inpatient nursing needs.
- Advanced training capability in specialty skills including ventilator operation, central lines, sampling catheters, urinary catheters, feeding tubes, and other ICU procedures.
- Train technicians and assistants at all levels, including advanced specialty and ICU procedures.
- Ensure proper use, troubleshooting, cleanliness, stocking, and readiness of hospital equipment and treatment areas.
- Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with your state's Veterinary Practice Act outlined for credentialed veterinary technicians (if applicable).
- Uphold the culture and values of Thrive Miami while serving as a role model for professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and safe work environment.
Possesses a positive work attitude - Self-motivated
- Excellent communication and organization skills
Required: Previous veterinary medicine experience
Preferred: Veterinary technician licensure, but not required
Preferred: Previous Emergency or ICU experience
Preferred: An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred; or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
