Lead Veterinary Technician/Inventory ManagerFull-time: 4 day, 10 hour shift with rotating Saturdays

Vanguard Veterinary Clinic is looking for a Lead Veterinary Technician to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

About You
The Lead Veterinary Technician/Inventory Manager plays a dual role in ensuring high-quality patient care and the efficient operation of the hospital. This individual provides leadership and training to the technical staff while managing inventory, supplies, and vendor relationships to support daily operations.
Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
Technical Leadership:
- Supervise, mentor, and train veterinary technicians and assistants.
- Support and assist technical team in their daily operations.
- Be visible, present, and engaged on the floor. 80% of time should be on the floor, 20% should be other duties.
- Perform monthly check-ins (KPDs) with your team members to ensure support is provided and accountability is maintained for goals/tasks given to the team.
- Collaborate with all other members of the leadership team to ensure success for the business. This includes bi-weekly leadership meetings, quarterly meetings, and specialized company leadership/inventory meetings that may come up.
- Assign daily tasks and ensure team compliance with hospital protocols.
- Support veterinarians during exams, surgeries, and treatments.
- Perform advanced technical skills including anesthetic monitoring, dental prophylaxis, catheter placement, and radiology.
- Perform spot checks on technical staff in exams and procedures at least once a quarter to ensure compliance with hospital protocols and procedures.
- Assist the technical team with continuing education initiatives.
- Oversee the flow of appointments and procedures to optimize efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with hospital protocols and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient medical records.
- Ensure cleanliness standards are upheld.
- Ensure quality patient care and safety at all times.
- Facilitate communication between technicians and veterinarians.
- Monitor and help manage technician scheduling and workload distribution.
Inventory Management:
- Manage the ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, food, and equipment.
- Maintain accurate inventory records using hospital software (Vetspire).
- Monitor usage trends to avoid overstocking or shortages.
- Communicate with vendors and suppliers, negotiate pricing, and coordinate deliveries.
- Ensure compliance with controlled substance tracking and storage regulations.
- Perform regular inventory counts and audits.
- Collaborate with practice management on budgeting, cost-control initiatives, and streamlining ordering processes.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for medications, medical supplies, vaccines, and prescription diets.
- Monitor usage and expiration dates to prevent shortages and minimize waste.
- Place and receive orders from approved vendors.
- Maintain controlled substance logs in accordance with DEA regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- Licensed/Registered/Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) preferred, but not required
- 3+ years of experience in a veterinary hospital setting.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, pharmacology, and equipment.
- Experience with inventory control systems and veterinary practice management software.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with OSHA and DEA regulations related to veterinary practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for long periods, with our without reasonable accommodation
- Comfortable handling and restraining animals of all sizes and temperaments
- Willing to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed

We are open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday 8am-12pm
