Company Profile
Alder Veterinary Group
Company Overview
Alder Veterinary Hospital (formerly Arroyo Veterinary Clinic, est. 1972) is an AAHA-accredited, privately owned small animal practice located in San Lorenzo, CA. With over 100 years of combined community history through our two locations — Alder Veterinary Hospital and SLZ Community Pet Clinic (formerly San Lorenzo Veterinary Hospital) — we are deeply rooted in the East Bay and proud to remain independent, with no corporate affiliation.
We are a Nextdoor Local Favorite, recognized four or more times in the last five years, reflecting the trust and loyalty our community places in us. Our team operates under a Fear Free philosophy, with FAS scoring integrated into our medical records, and we are committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality medicine in a low-stress environment for pets and their families.
Our facility is equipped with advanced diagnostics and technology, including a latest-generation IDEXX suite (Catalyst One, ProCyte One, SediVue Dx, and IDEXX inVue Dx AI slide-free cytology), two dedicated IDEXX lab stations (one in the GP room and one in the specialty/dental suite), digital radiography with all rads read by a board-certified radiologist, Butterfly handheld ultrasound for rapid triage, and an Esaote full-function ultrasound with direct radiologist upload capability. A CT machine is coming soon. We also feature a purpose-built dental specialty suite, two locoregional anesthesia stations, electrosurgery with LigaSure vessel sealing, Class IV laser therapy, PRP therapy, and a camera-enabled microscope for colleague consultation.
We benefit from regular on-site specialists, including a veterinary dentist, cardiologist, radiologist, and board-certified surgeon. We are in the process of moving into a stunning new wood-and-glass facility within 1–3 months, purpose-built to support our growing team and expanding services. This is an exciting time to join Alder — we are a close-knit, collaborative practice with a 4-day work week, a strong support team, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of our staff as much as our patients.
Company History
Alder Veterinary Hospital has deep roots in the San Lorenzo community, with a combined history spanning over 100 years across two locations. The practice now known as Alder Veterinary Hospital was originally founded as Arroyo Veterinary Clinic in 1972 by Dr. Bonasch, who built it into a beloved neighborhood institution. Our second location, SLZ Community Pet Clinic, was established even earlier — in 1965 — by Dr. Vance as San Lorenzo Veterinary Hospital, making it one of the longest-standing veterinary practices in the East Bay.
Dr. Pavneet Mavi acquired Arroyo Veterinary Clinic in 2011 and San Lorenzo Veterinary Hospital in 2025, uniting both practices under shared ownership and a shared mission. In 2025, both clinics were rebranded — Arroyo Veterinary Clinic became Alder Veterinary Hospital, and San Lorenzo Veterinary Hospital became SLZ Community Pet Clinic — names that honor the strength of their community roots while stepping forward into a new chapter.
At the heart of this evolution is a philosophy Dr. Mavi and her team deeply believe in: that high-quality veterinary care should be both accessible and affordable. Rather than offering a fixed standard of care, Alder is built around the Spectrum of Care (SOC) approach — the new standard in veterinary medicine that moves away from a one-size-fits-all model toward a flexible, client-centered framework. This approach balances evidence-based medicine with real-world resources, finances, and client values, ensuring every pet receives tailored, ethical, and accessible treatment — whether that means comprehensive advanced care or essential, practical solutions. Every family deserves options.
Our Mission: To help pets live longer, healthier lives through compassionate, high-quality care. As your neighborhood veterinary team, we focus on preventive medicine, early intervention, and personalized treatment — offering urgent and specialty services with empathy, flexibility, and integrity.
Our Vision: To be the trusted first choice for veterinary care in our community — offering wellness, urgent, and specialty services in a state-of-the-art facility. Our team blends advanced medicine with humility and kindness, listening to each client's needs and working together to find the best solutions for every pet, regardless of financial background.
Our Core Values: Accountability, Communication, Courtesy, Dependability, Empathy, Integrity, Problem-Solving, Proactivity, and Professionalism.
