Company Overview

The Zoo is owned by the City of Brownsville and managed by the Valley Zoological Society. Approximately 450,000 guests visit the park on an annual basis. Its visitor base is made up of families from the four-county area known as the Rio Grande Valley and tourists to South Texas, many of whom spend time enjoying the rich Hispanic cultural attractions the area has to offer, as well as SpaceX Starbase and South Padre Island National Seashore (30 minutes away).

The community of South Texas is very supportive of the Gladys Porter Zoo. For just over 50 years, it has been the top school field trip destination in the area. Local residents have a generational loyalty to the park, thanks, in part, to their positive childhood memories.

With support from the City of Brownsville, the Gladys Porter Zoo is embarking on the execution of a new master plan, which includes new exhibits, improvements and visitor amenities. It is an exciting time for the fastest-growing region in the state of Texas!
