At Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Clinic (AAVEC), you'll do more than practice. You'll grow, collaborate, and help shape what's possible in veterinary medicine.
Our state-of-the-art facility is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and advanced equipment allow our doctors to perform complex procedures. AAVEC has its own dedicated advance operating suite as well as dedicated advanced procedure room, allowing our Emergency Doctors to cut regularly and scope for foreign bodies.
We are equipped to offer treatment using the latest innovations in veterinary medicine. We offer digital radiography (x-ray) and ultrasonography (ultrasound) services, a dedicated ICU ward for patients in critical condition, and an in-house laboratory which allows us to conduct many tests right in our facility.
Our team includes 20 full-time and 11 part-time Emergency Veterinarians with an impressive average tenure of 11 years among them. Our Medical Director, Dr. Tommy Kozek, has been with AAVEC for 35 years and continues to work regular clinical shifts, including overnights, reflecting his ongoing commitment to both the team and patient care.
Additionally, we are part of the Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center, a collaborative network of veterinary specialists in emergency medicine, surgery, canine rehabilitation, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology, neurology, radiation oncology, and veterinary radiology. This close collaboration between our ER doctors and specialists across various disciplines allows us to practice excellent medicine, provide comprehensive care, and achieve outstanding clinical outcomes for our patients.

This path lets you stay in your current Ethos network hospital, enjoying your full wages and benefits while practicing at an Ethos hospital and pursuing board certification.
In your day-to-day, you will:
- Deliver high-quality emergency and critical care to a diverse caseload of companion animals.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical conditions.
- Provide comprehensive emergency care through a balanced mix of receiving new emergency cases, triaging incoming patients, and managing hospitalized patients throughout their course of treatment.
- Perform emergency procedures and stabilize critically ill or injured patients using evidence-based medicine.
- Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
- Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.
What You Bring
- DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
- Experience practicing emergency medicine is preferred (or equivalent clinical experience).
- Confidence managing emergency cases and making sound clinical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
- A passion for continuous learning, teamwork, and advancing emergency veterinary medicine.
