Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician, RVT
Are you looking for a role where your diagnostic skills really shine? Join our Internal Medicine
team and put your clinical curiosity to work every day.
We treat patients with a wide range of conditions, and every case receives the same level of
thoughtful diagnostics, precise technical skill, and genuine curiosity. You’ll work hands-on
alongside board-certified internists: placing catheters, drawing blood, monitoring anesthesia,
assisting with imaging, and tracking treatment progress. Some days move at a steady pace;
others call for a little extra digging into results that don’t quite add up. Either way, you’ll be
building real relationships with patients, and the people who love them.
We’re looking for an RVT with strong technical skill, genuine curiosity, and the confidence to
handle everyday cases and the occasional diagnostic puzzle. If this sounds like your kind of

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Procedure Knowledge
Endoscopy - Set up, assist with, and clean and maintain equipment for GI endoscopy,
rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy, and cystoscopy
Maintain sterile technique
Set up and assist with common internal medicine procedures: transtracheal wash,
biopsies, bone marrow cytology/biopsy
Diagnostic Testing Skills
Laboratory samples: Run automated CBCs, blood chemistries, I-stats, refractometer and
prepare and read blood films
Urine samples: UA with sediment, Cultures, UPC, etc.
Fecal samples: cytology evaluation
BG curves, ACTH stims, Bile Acids, etc.
Proficient at obtaining blood pressures, EKG readings, and diagnostic radiography
Prepare appropriate lab forms and submit appropriate samples
Technical Skills
Assist doctors and fellow technicians with appropriate restraint of animals
Proficient at venipuncture, cystocentesis, place male urinary catheters, central lines
Administer and instruct clients in SC fluid, Etude or PEG tube feedings, and insulin
administration
Medical and Treatment Knowledge
Prepare and administer medications and prescriptions in accordance with state
regulations and doctor’s orders (including IV, IM, SC, PO, Rectal, Nebulization, etc.)
Anesthesia: Administer and monitor anesthesia in accordance with state regulations and
doctors’ orders. Troubleshoot and identify problems with critical patients under
anesthesia
Common internal medicine diseases: diabetes, Cushing’s, IMHA, etc.
CPR knowledge and experience
Communication Skills
Have a positive attitude and willing to learn new procedures
Keep doctors apprised of the patient's condition and any potential problems
Communicate with clients regarding the medical information of their pet, provide
accurate information to them regarding procedures, follow up/home care, hospital
policies; diagnostics and basic disease processes
Help schedule appointments and medical procedures
Computer and Medical Records
Maintain patient records by recording all conversations with clients in the patient file
Review medical records and notes to discern the nature of the patient's visit
Be able to complete a patient’s history and enter into medical records
Be able to assist owners with understanding discharge instructions
Enter all charges accrued by inpatients and outpatients

Knowledge of small animal nursing care, patient monitoring and administration of
therapy
Proficiency with medication administration, IV catheters, blood draws, and laboratory
procedures.
Basic organizational and computer skills
Knowledge of standard protocols for providing support to veterinarians and other staff
during patient procedures and treatment
Knowledge of the use, care and storage of veterinary medical, surgical, laboratory and
imaging equipment and instruments
Knowledge of sterilization techniques for various instruments and materials.
Knowledge of general office practices and telephone techniques
Familiarity with computer and multi-line telephone systems.
Knowledge of handling payment transactions
Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures
Familiarity with federal and state animal health laws, including OSHA and DEA
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)
Minimum 1-2 years recent experience in a veterinary speciality practice
Skilled in animal handling, lifting, restraint, and able to stand for extended periods.
Proficient in IV catheter placement, blood draws, lab work, anesthesia monitoring, medication
administration, and triage.
Solid knowledge of veterinary procedures and terminology; committed to continued learning.
Understanding of OSHA, DEA, and animal health regulations.
Preferred:
Degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program
1-2 years of previous experience with veterinary internal medicine
Fear Free technique familiarity.
Experience with the Instinct treatment and EMR software.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
